Works in Progress

With the imagination I've got, I come up with new series ideas faster than I can write them. Here are some of my current series projects.

Series Title: Aurora Meridiani
Genre: Fantasy
Number of planned books: 8

Book one working title: A Beacon of Peace

Premise: Dar Agamaitu and his small band of guild mercenaries are hired by Liesl, a desperate White Circle mage, and charged with discovering who among her exalted order is behind the Grey Cowls--a secret society determined to find and destroy the Meridian Crystal and bring about the end of all magic.

Status: Prep

Notes: This is my second-oldest series idea, stemming from talks over lunch with a friend back when I used to work in Portland, OR. People keep asking me when I am going to start writing it.

Update 9.8.11: Two days of nonstop imagining, sparked by a short conversation with my husband, has given me all eight book titles, their basic plots, and several series-long themes. Huzzah progress!

Book 2: The Sparks of Freedom
Book 3: The Bonfires of Honor
Book 4: A Dawn of Harmony
Book 5: The Twilight of Mortality
Book 6: The Pyre of Truth
Book 7: The Embers of Time
Book 8: A Shadow of Hope

 Series Title: Truthfinder
Genre: Fantasy
Number of planned books: 3

Book one working title: The Arch of Lament

Premise: A lone archaeologist’s discovery forces her to challenge her pantheon and its priests and leads her to unearth the shameful secret of her people’s origins.

Status: Rough draft

Notes: I came up with the three-book plot of this series in about twenty minutes one October night in 2009. Two days later, I'd signed up for NaNoWriMo and was frenetically planning the first novel. The impetus for the plot stemmed from a concept I hoped to see played out in Battlestar Galactica's season one, but the show never completed the concept, leaving me still curious. That concept was: what if a people who revered a pantheon of gods eventually came face to face with them and saw them for what they truly were?

Series Title: Seals of the Duelists
Genre: YA Fantasy
Number of planned books: 3

Book one working title: Elements of Allegiance

Premise: A bog farmer’s apprentice, taken from home and trained in hand-to-hand magical warfare for service to the emperor who annexed his homeland, must choose where his true loyalties lie when the empire’s enemies invade.

Status: Beta Reader draft

Book two working title: The Traitor's Avatar

Premise: When one of his hexmates mysteriously goes missing, a young Imperial Duelist must balance his dangerous avatar training against suspicion that someone on his remote academy campus is a traitor to the empire.

Status: Prep. Planned novel for NaNoWriMo 2011

Book three working title: Master of the Seals

Notes: This series was a fresh idea that came to me just before NaNo 2010. I decided that I wanted to try my hand at the "teen goes to magical academy" plot line, my way. Seals of the Duelists is part Gladiator, part Last Airbender, and part Harry Potter.

Series Title: Margarita Williams Geocaching Mysteries
Genre: Cozy/tech mystery
Number of planned books: unknown--at least one for every common geocache type

Book one working title: First to Find

Premise: A puzzle-making geocacher finds a body in the woods, miring her in a murderous case of industrial espionage.

Status: 2nd draft complete.

Notes: I've wanted to read a geocaching murder mystery series for years, but there hasn't been one. So I'm writing my own. Each novel will feature a different type of geocache.
